The phases in construction projects are the same as in any other: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and completion. However, apart from these five stages, projects of this type can be structured around six different moments.
The 6 phases of construction projects
The phases in construction projects are summarized in six:
1. Pre-design. The first phases of construction projects are also the time to introduce the concept of sustainability. This commitment, with the environment, people and society must be a constant in the work and, of course, in the way of putting them forward.
2. Engineering Public participation can acquire a greater role at this stage, where the terms in which the project will be developed will have to be confirmed.
3. Supply. A phase that must be systematically managed and where, the training and experience of the Project Manager play a key role to minimize errors and optimize the conditions in which the work is executed.
4. Construction. It is when the execution of the works occurs. This is one of the phases of construction projects where it is most meticulous to be in compliance with the regulations, especially with regard to the applicable safety and health regulations.
5. Start-up. It is the phase dedicated to verifying that everything planned works according to the design and is operational. If all the works have been executed correctly, this moment would be to verify that the project has been a success. As integrating the efforts of workers, contractors and designers is not so simple in practice, this stage is intended to make effective the adjustment that is needed to meet customer expectations, an alignment that has to be carried out through the engineering.
6. Operations and maintenance. The phases of construction projects do not end with the delivery to the client, but, many times, it is necessary to continue providing services such as those described below:
Performance improvement program.
Facilities management
Maintenance and operations in plant.
